the life of joey the otter
(it was the best working title i could come up with)
chapter one: a new beginning
It was a cold November day, as an 20 year old colledge student, Joey, sits in his apartment room studying for his exams and doing his homework.
"Man, this is inhuman, how do these people expect us to do all of this work? They pile more and more on us every year" Joey said exhausted, as he collapsed face first onto his desk.
As he laid there exhausted from all of the work, he suddenly hears a knocking on his door.
"Now who could be knocking on my door?" Joey asked himself curiously as he got up.
He walked over to the door and opened it up only to find no one there.
"Now thats strange, I coulda sworn someone was there a minute ago" Joey said to himself confused.
He turns to close the door and finds a note nailed to it. he looks at it curiously and reads it.
"Notice to all tennants, due to the rising cost of utilities, rent will be increased by fifty dollars effective immediately. We apologize for the inconvinience, signed, the landlord" Joey read to himself.
Joey clenched his left hand into a fist and punched the door with all his migh. He manages to punch a small hole into the door and rips the note off the door with his right hand and rips it into little, tiny pieces. He then storms back into his room and sits at his desk. He knocks all of his books and pencils off of it as lays face first on the desk trying to calm down some.
"this is ridiculous, its hard enough to do my schooling and my job at the same time, I cant offer up anymore free time for work, I just can't do this!" Joey yelled to himself in annoyance
He took some deep breaths to help calm himself and got up and walked to his closet. He pulled out his jacket from the closet and put it on.
"Maybe a walk is all i need to cool off" Joey said to himself with a slight depressed tone
He walked out of the apartment and closed and locked his door. He then proceeded down the stairs of the building, then walked out the front door into the cold outdoors. He looks around see's the freshly fallen snow and walks along the sidewalk heading down to the park. As he walks, he see's some kids in a backyard having a snowball fight with each other and having fun. He stands there and watches them some.
"If only i could ever be young again, then i could put off all of this stress till i'm more ready for it" Joey said with a slightly sad tone
He continued to walk down the the sidewalk till a sharp, cold breeze started to blow. Joey quickly ran inside a nearby store to escape the cold. As he walks in, he see's that the store is dimly lit, is full of cobwebs, barely has anything on its shelves. He scratches his head in confusion as to the condition of the store.
"Good day, sir. Please feel free to have a look around the store" a mysterious voice called out to him from behind
Joey turned around and jumped up as he saw an old man in black cloak with dark glasses on.
"Sorry if i scared you, i tend to have that effect on people" the man said as he walked over to the register
Joey nodded and just walked around and looked at the merchandise. Everything there was, was covered in a to of dust and were quite old and worn. Joey was about to leave the store, when he noticed something quite strange. It was an otter plush, but what made it strange, was that it looked quite new. It didn't have a speck of dust on it and neither did it look as though it were in dissrepair. Joey picked it up and looked at it, as the shop keeper watched with a smile.
"I see something has caught your eye." the old man said to Joey from across the room
Joey looks up at the old man and nods, "Yeah, i found this plush otter, it looks new actually" Joey said to him a bit confused
"Why dont you come around back with me?" the old man asked
Joey was unsure knowing most horror movies involve a person following strange looking people to places such as that, but goes anyway knowing it was real life and not a movie. As they reach the back, the old man turns to Joey.
"Theres a reason as to why the otter plush seems so new" the old man says with a grin
"What is it?" Joey asks curiously.
"It's what you desire most" the old man replied
"What I......desire most?" Joey asked confused
"You may not know it, but it is" the old man replied
Joey just stood there dumbfounded by what the shopkeeper had told him.
"Perhaps i need to show you" the old man replied to Joey's confused look
Joey only just looked at him even more confues. The old man began chanting some words, but he couldnt make out what they were though. Joey began to feel all dizzy and next thing he knew, everything went black.
"Am..... am i dead?" joey thought to himself as he was still in the darkness
