Skippa's Phobia Empty
PostSubject: Skippa's Phobia   Skippa's Phobia Icon_minitimeTue Mar 22, 2011 11:34 am

So I was having a chat with my puppybro legandaryhon on Skype last night and we get to chatting about something we've been working on together. An idea of his that I've been trying to adapt into my stories for awhile now called Oracles. The Oracles are sort of like furry representations of legendary pokemon within the pokemon world. In exchange for a portion of the legendary pokemon's power, they assist the legend in the area of the world they govern. A side effect is they all suffer from a phobia. When I posted something about Skippa facing his, I thought it might have been the best three paragraphs I ever wrote in all the few years I've been writing. So now that I felt I should share it with everyone, I added a couple paragraphs and left the origonal post between asterisks so it made for a nice little short story. Hope you guys enjoy it ^.^

Skippa’s Nightmare

It had been some time since Skippa had taken on the task and burden of being the Oracle of the Oceans. This position of power, granted to him by the legendary Kyogre gave him even greater mastery to his already astounding control over water in all forms. This power came with a catch however. Firstly, he was to help Kyogre as the ruler of the world’s seas, maintaining with the trio a balance between the land, sea and sky. The second part was a side-effect Kyogre warned him about. He would suffer from a crippling phobia… a phobia he would face when a rouge Darkrai visited his house one night…
***
Skippa chuckled as he stared out at the sea, a hurricane raging with fury to match the primordial, earth shaking storms of when the world was still young. As a wave splashed up from below at him and a bolt of lightning so big it illuminated the world from horizon to horizon cracked above the sky, he began cackling as though he'd lost all sanity left to him.

"Why do you not fear?" the voice of the nightmare asked in shock. "This fear is carved into your very flesh! Yet you mock it?"

"You're a fool..." Skippa cackled in defiance, turning to face the smoky form as another bolt lit the skies. "I faced my greatest fear on the night of a storm. Even Kyogre couldn't do more than make me nervous when he made me his Oracle." With a grin, Skippa closed his eyes and threw his head back, extending his arms to embrace nature's fury. "Compared to that night, this is nothing!" His insane look calmed as the memory surfaced, a gentle smile of peace upon his muzzle now. "My greatest fear... was that she'd say no..."
***
Skippa smiled as he awoke to the peaceful night he’d remembered before falling asleep. His last memory had been of hearing the nightmare he’d confounded so much becoming violently ill as he tried to consume his beloved nightmare only to find it on the opposite side of the dream spectrum. He rolled over to the side and draped a single arm around the squirrel under the covers next to him, cuddling as close as he could without waking her. As he gave her a kiss between her pointed ears, he felt the joy of the night he’d finally proposed to her again. How could any storm compare to you? Skippa wondered with a grin. The phobia Kyogre had warned him he would suffer was a deep, crippling fear of thunderstorms, yet whenever one had rolled around, the most Skippa had ever felt was a rise in adrenaline when the phobia could do no more than cause a reaction that was purely physical. The night I proposed to you, I faced what I feared more than all things. You made it my most cherished memory. When faced with that love, what are a few drops of rain between us? And in her sleep… Zoe smiled…

That was so heartwarming. Skippa is always a good character sent the mood with.

What did you tell me Sai's phobia was.

I didn't actually. We never gave Sai a phobia from this. Izuri's the one who's afraid of ghosts.

Glad you liked the story though bro. ^.^

Interesting though I will say it does seem just a tad cheesey. I mean if it is supposed to be a crippling fear that it should work regardless. That's the thing with a phobia. It's not rational. So really Skipa got the pirks but none of the draw backs. If the phobia didn't it seem have to be tied to an element I'd say Skippa's should have been an irrational fear of her leaving him. So perhaps his nightmares would then be of her death or of her falling out of love with him.

At any rate it's not bad, just a lil out of context for those of us who have a difficult time following all this.

Yeah kinda figured. I knew it was about the cheesiest thing I ever wrote but still thought the three paragraphs were my most heartfelt ones I've written so far. Thanks for the critique Lig! *hugs a liger*
