Kobi : Part 2
By : The Sleeping Fox
The park was amazing. It had two jungle gyms, both with full-length slides, a sand box, monkey bars, and a soccer field. There were kids everywhere, and all the trees and plants where in full bloom. I could tell today was going to be a great day. I scanned the park and found where I wanted to go first, finally Julian handed me the mesh sac, and I ran over to the sand box.
I started to build some sand castles, and I could tell that people were amazed because as they walked by they could help stare, and say comments like, “Wow,” “he’s good,” and “he’s so talented.” I continued building, not paying attention to the passer-bys, until one by one they stopped coming. It wasn’t until my castle came crashing down, by fault of foot, that I snapped back into reality.
“Hey! Watch it,” I exclaimed.
“Awww, is the little baby fox going to cry?” the voice said while another laughed.
I looked up to see who the perpetrators were. It was two bloodhounds, if I wasn’t mistaken they looked like twins, and they were at least four years older than I was. Well, at least in this body.
“Why did you wreck my castle?” I asked them.
“Why did you wreck my castle?” The hound mimicked.
“Because you’re in our sand box,” the other replied in a tough but childish manner, “and you better do what we tell you to, or you’re going to get hurt.”
“This is everyone’s sandbox,” I said in an assertively. “Besides you can’t hurt me, there are to many adults around.”
As I looked around I soon regretted saying that, there were no adults around, and Julian was to busy, talking up some teenaged vixen. One of the bloodhounds kicked at the ground, sending sand flying, into my face. Taken back a bit, I stood up and went to push the “kicker,” but the other hound, tripped me sending me to the ground, scraping my hands and knees.
“Look at the baby trying to stand up to us Marty,” one of the hounds laughed menacingly as he took my mesh bag, and the other contents that were spread across the sandbox, “look he’s still in diapers.”
“Yeah Hunter, looks like the baby’s going to cry,” the other hound joined in pointing, and laughing, “Why don’t you go and play with the other babies.”
I stood up, with my bottom lip quivering. Tears streamed down my face as I ran towards where Julian, and the Vixen where sitting. The two hounds, Marty and Hunter laughed as I retreated to safety.
“Julian!” I cried as ran to him, and buried my face in his thigh.
“What’s wrong?” he asked me, turning his attention away from the vixen, “tell me what happened, why are your hand and knees all scratched up?”
I lifted my head and pointed towards the sandbox where, the two bullies destroyed what was left of my latest accomplishment.
“The Deagle brothers,” he said not sounding very surprised, “their whole family are a bunch of racist ass-…umm, jerks.
“Don’t worry about them,” The vixen that was talking to Julian told me, as she knelt down beside me.
“Bu-but they have my toys,” I said remembering that they had taken them, “what if I never get them back?”
“Don’t worry,” the vixen assured me, “I’ll get them back.”
She stood up and walked very confidently to the sand box as Julian tended to my scrapes. The vixen was very attractive pure white artic fox, she was wearing a halter-top, and some low ride jeans, and she had the best pair of…shoes I had ever seen. To bad I was four years old.
I don’t know what she said to Marty and Hunter, but they handed over my toys right way. As she walked back she had a very smug smile on her face.
“Here you go Hun,” she smiled as she set the toys by the bench, “why don’t you go and play with some other kids for a while?”
“I don’t want to,” I said forcefully, “they’re all big and mean.”
“No they’re not,” Julian explained, as he picked me up and led me to a group of kids that seemed to be around my age, “these kid are nice, I baby-sit them all the time.”
The group of kids all watched as Julian walked me over to them. There were four kids in all, a male raccoon, a female calico cat, and two tigers, one was male the other female. Their faces lit up when they saw it was Julian bring me over.
“Julian!” they all said at the same time, as if they had been practicing it all morning.
“Hey guys,” he replied as I shyly hid behind him, “this is my brother, and he’s kind of new and needs some friends, do you mind if he plays with you?”
“Of course he can pway with us,” the male tiger said, as the others agreed with her.
“Thanks, I knew I could count on you,” he then sat me down with them, “this is Kobi,”
“I’m Macy,” the cat introduced herself.
“My names Marcus,” said the Raccoon.
“I’m Gabriel, and this is Evelyn,” the male tiger said, introducing his sister, “we’re twins.”
After the introductions, Julian wandered off to find his Vixen again, and left me all alone with the group of kids. As I looked around, I noticed a group of mothers glancing over at the group every so often, so I decided it would be safe to stay here.
“You got a booboo,” Macy gasped pointing at my knees, “What happened?”
“These two bullies pushed me down,” I said as I looked over at the sandbox.
“Those guys are jerks,” Marcus explained, “they made me eat bugs once.
“Yeah, and they pushed my brother and me into the mud,” A Evelyn added, as Gabriel nodded.
“They haven’t done anything to me since I scratched them,” Macy told me smiling.
We talked about how mean Marty and Hunter were for about fifteen more minutes. Which made me feel better about what happened. A little bit later Macy announced that she was bored so we decided to play hide and seek.
After announcing what we would be doing to the parents, we all ran in different directions, as Marcus attempted to count to ten. I found a nice place behind another tree, and watched as the others disappeared into their own hiding places.
“Hey kid,” a raspy voice said, sending chills down my spine.
I spun around, with my hair standing on end. In front of me stood one of the most ugly hyenas I had ever seen. He was wearing a long dirty trench coat, and flashed me a crooked rotting smile.
“I’ve got something for you,” he said holding back a nervous smile.
“…” I turned to run; I knew this wouldn’t end well.
He grabbed me from behind, and covered my mouth. I kicked and scratched at him, but it was no use in this body. He tried to run off, until one of the mothers yelled, “oh my god he has that child!” The man started to run. He turned the corner and a large non-Anthro German Shepard tackled him to the ground with his fangs in his arm.
He released me and I started running it wasn’t long until someone stopped me. I looked up and saw it was a regular Anthro-German Shepard in a navy blue police officer’s uniform. He picked me up and said something into his radio that I didn’t understand, but all of a sudden another police officer came out of nowhere, arresting the pervert.
“Let’s go find your family little guy,” he said as he put his hat on me.
“O-okay,” I replied.
The officer turned the corner, to head back to the park, and a panicking Julian darted by us. He screeched to a halt when he realised the Police man was holding me.
“Oh my god, thank you so much,” Julian said. I wasn’t sure if he was talking to the policeman or a higher power.
“No problem he replied,” the Policeman said, handing me over to Julian, “If it wasn’t for Sparks over there we probably wouldn’t have caught the guy.
After thanking the police officer profusely, Julian brought me back to the park, and explained to the Mothers that I was safe. They scolded him for a while, for not watching me. After that was done Julian gathered my toys and the diaper bag, and explained what had happened to me and why I couldn’t stay with my friends. Which was pointless because I knew what the guy was doing, but I still wanted to stay with my friend.
After talking to me about what happened, me, him, and surprisingly, the Vixen all walked home together.

When we got home, Julian put everything away, and washed my hands, for lunch. When he checked my diaper it was dry, which was kind of surprising after everything that happened today. He then brought me into the kitchen and set me in the highchair. The table had already been set, and on the plates was what seemed to be Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
“Thanks Val,” Julian said to the Vixen.
“Anytime, Julian,” She replied as they both sat down, “You two have had a pretty eventful day, it’s the least I could do.”
I took a bite of my sandwich, and noticed she had cut the crusts off. I looked over at the Vixen; I found it kind of weird that I hadn’t heard her name until now.
“Thank you Val,” I gave her a grateful smile, “it’s really good.”
“Anything for the cutest little fox cub I know,” she replied making me blush.
When we finished eating, Julian, and Val sent me out into the living room to play. They seemed a little eager for me to leave. So I climbed up on the couch and turned on the television, and started to watch a show called, “Jidou and friends” which stared a little cat. After a while, I got bored of watching children’s program, so I decided to see what Julian was doing.
I flopped off the couch and headed to the Kitchen, but when I opened the door I was surprised at what I saw. Val was straddling Julian while they made out, up against a wall. I cocked my head as I watched. The Julian slowly slid his hand up Val’s shirt.
“Can you do that?” I asked Curiously.
When I said this, they were startled back into reality, and they toppled over and fell onto the black and white tile floor.

After dinner we all curled up on the couch, and watched a movie. Obviously it was a kid’s movie. It was entitled “The Fox Prince.” About half way through the movie the front door opened. Maria was home. She came in lugging about five plastic bags in each hand all filled with, boxes of all shapes and sizes.
“Mommy!” I said as I hopped off the couch and ran over to her and wrapped my arms around her legs.
“Hello to you to,” She replied as set down the bags and hugged me, “how is my little Kobi?”
“Good,” I said as I tried to peek in one of the bag.
“No Peeking,” she said sternly, slapping my hand, “You know it’s your Birthday in three days, you don’t want to spoil the surprise.”
“Okay Mommy,” I agreed, “Wait…it’s my birth day in three days!
After she took off her coat and shoes, she picked me up, and pointed out on the calendar by the door what date it was. She was right. It was my Birthday in three days, but how could she possibly know the exact date. I guess she must have been watching me for a while.
After she hid the many boxes, she joined us on the couch to finish the movie.

I must have dozed off, because I woke up in my crib around the middle of the night. I stood up and looked around the room. The clock on the wall read ten o’clock. I had never been awake this late before in this world.
Once again my curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to unlock the cribs sliding mechanism. Once I finally opened it and slid it down, I climbed out. I then walked over to the door.
“It looks like Mommy left it open,” I thought to my self.
As I left the room I looked around in the hallway, and saw that there was a light on in the kitchen. So I padded over in the direction of the light. I peeked my head in the doorway, and noticed that Julian and Maria were talking.
“How could you let that happen Julian,” she said in a worried voice.
“I’m sorry mom,” he replied, “I took my eyes off of him for a couple minutes.”
“You know we already lost him once,” she raised her voice.
“What do you mean you’ve lost me once?” I said as I walked into sight.
The room went silent. I could tell by the expression on their faces that they were conflicted on telling me something. Maria motioned for me to sit on her lap, so I ran up to her, and she lifted me up onto her. I noticed pictures on the table of an older male fox and a cub that looked just like me only really young.
“Who’s that Mommy?” I said pointing to the picture.
“That’s your daddy,” she told me choking back some tears, “ and he loved you and Julian so much.”
She then looked at me in the eyes, and said she would explain the earlier comments. She explained that when I was young cub, that her, daddy, Julian, and me, were in a terrible car crash, and that the force from the impact sent daddy to heaven, and me to the other world.
She then went on to tell me that, the reason I’m still a cub, was that, five years in the human world equal one year here. So if I spent sixteen years in the other world, and I came back here, I would have only aged three years. It was a little hard to understand, but it did explain why I adapted to life here so quickly.
“I love you Mommy,” I said as I rested my head on her chest and listened to her heartbeat.
“I love you to baby,” she said as she started humming a tune that quickly put me to sleep, “Sleep well, my little Kobi.”

As I slept it all came back to me in a dream. I was strapped into my car seat, it was raining, and it was nighttime. Beside me was a thirteen-year-old Julian playing with his mini-game station, Mommy was in the passenger’s seat, and Daddy was driving. I remember hearing the lightning boom. I started to cry, and right away Mommy tried to sooth me.
Julian continued to play his game, and I remember daddy looking over at Mommy and saying, “please make him stop crying, it’s hard to concentrate.” Then that’s when it happened. There was that bright light, and I jerked forward, and when I woke up, everything was gone…
I startled out of my sleep and started to shake. I was still in Maria’s arms, so I looked up at her for reassurance.
“Was it my fault Mommy?” I said with a whimper, “did Daddy die because of me?”
