Yeah, so a little while ago, I got myself a fox plushy. He's a lot of fun. Cuddling feels really nice.

Now, here's the thing. His paws are white, but they don't look as white as they once did. Point being, he needs to be washed.

Now, normally, I guess the washing machine is the solution, but the tag says "surface washable." So I was wondering if anyone knew what that means. Should I just bathe him in the sink with soap in shallow water? It does say "surface" after all.

And to get a discussion started, how do you guys wash your plush friends? Bathe them by hand? A trip to the washing machine with an extra hug at the end?

the best way to get ur plushies clean (i did this in my dorm w/ my charizards, i was bord) but what u do is in a sink, get the water hot and w/ running water wash it gentally then fill the sink up, like a bath then add clothing detergent, thats the trick, i used dawn, add enough like 1/2c of detergent. with a rag gentally scrub ur plushie in its bath and if need be, make another bath b/c u will be surprised how dirty the water gets, then squeez as much water out of ur plush, he/she will be heavy w/ water just to let u know, then get a hair dyer and for 10-15 minutes dry him out and let him air dry for the rest. and thats how u clean a plushie!!!!!!!

I just put mine in the washing machine :\.. It worked well nothing went wrong and they were fluffier and softer than ever. But it can ruin the material on some plushies so you gotta make sure that it doesnt say something like 'Do not put in washing machine'

Washing machines can damage some plushies, but most are polyester which is safe. The real problem is, especially with larger ones, the stuffing doesn't dry all the way and then mildew or other fun stuff can grow in there, and they get a funky smell. I usually make a sink full of warm water and a delicate detergent. Woolite works well. Then just rub the surface with a cloth and rinse it. BTW, if you've never washed your plush you'd be amazed how gross they can be without showing it. The first time I washed my Fieval, the water was dark gray afterwards. Of course he's 22 years old, but still...
