| I just wonder cause most of us remember something like looney toons or something that gave us our start I just wonder about Arthur cause the characters are already so anthro. | |

| Well, I'm not sure...besides, Arthur is is already very old. It was new when I was like 4, and that was in 1993. Its still on I think...on PBS right? Despite that, tons of cartoons, in fact most, use furries anyways, to at least some degree. However, Arthur is what the young audience would watch, adn that is a crutial development time. BUt...the reason they made it anthro to start with was cause obviously most kids adore animals. My little cousin 10 year old is obsessed with animals, yet she aint a furry. | |

| Hmm... Possibly. I've been obsessed with animals since I was very young, but I know for sure that movies and books with animal characters have always had an effect on me.
I guess it's a chicken or egg thing. Do people like furry because of these characters, or do people like these characters because they're furry?

| I deffinatlly think alot of being furry is already in a person by the time they encounter something that has animal and human traits but the shows and stuff act as the final trigger. Its like when you have a word stuck right at the tip of your toughn but you just can't quite remember it then something goes off in your head and all of a sudden it all comes together. I just wonder what shows are most likely to trigger the final reaction. - Incontinent Wolfhound wrote:

Very true and yuh-know that bit about how kids love animals has me wondering something. Most if not all of us were appearantly stunted somehow in our development or something I wonder if the baby + furry thing is somehow connected or just coincidence. I know most of us are into diapers like our non-furry counter part infentalists but at least ire-k and squeakybunny are not into the diaper aspect.

And delta, by your logic, everyone is a furry, and I sure hope that's not true. I think you misunderstand, DS. I said that I like furry characters, whether in cartoons, movies or books. Then I asked the question whether people like me are furries because of these characters, or whether we're drawn to them because we're furry. Sorry if I was unclear.

| Poco is right, I don't mean that just because you like cartoons you are destiened to be furry. Many people have the basics in them and when they see something "furry" it puts the last pieces into place.
Like fliping a light switch on. You need to have a swith, wires, light bulb, and electricity so the furry/light potential is already there, but somewhere along the way the switch needs to also be flipped to the on position by something. I wonder if arthur and the like will work as the switch and final piece for those that already have the potential.
Get it now? | |

| Perhaps destined wasn't the right term to use. I just mean that at one point or another those who are furry whoever they might be and for whatever reason there is a point at which an assosiation is made.
If you like salty foods and you like corn and things that are crunchy when is the first time you encounter "corn chips". Also as there are diffrent varieties in the furry community there are diffrent flavors and presantaitons. For the chips analigy you have dorietoes, regular, freatoes and other variations of the same basics.
If a person assosiats themselves more with animals than humans and are humans (obviously). What or where will they encounter a human/animal character that unleashes the full "eurika" moment, even if not concious but just a sub-cncious assosiation.

| In response to your last comment well some people might. I mean there's a they wouldn't call it furry but they might occasionally imagine themselves as something like that. I don't think there's any person that hasn't wondered what it would be like to have at least some animal traits. | |

| Smoke, I had a fursona before I even knew the fandom existed, let alone the concept. | |

| Well, for me finding the fandom was just putting a label on what I already was. I know it's not that way for everyone, but I've been pretending to be an animal since I was a toddler. It's really kind of an obsession for me. Like anything else, furry has people who are REALLY into it and some who are just casually interested. We all know we're really people, but I don't know that it's a terrible thing to associate oneself with an animal too. Sure, it's sorta weird. Like those Trek fans who live as Klingons. But it's mostly harmless. | |

| I know it dosn't seem likely that many could spontaniously become babyfurs but its true.
I too was a full blown babyfur before I knew what one was. I was looking up baby kacheek diapers as the neopets customization was brand new when I came across chibiicaps page and she had a discription of what a babyfur was and I was bowled over that there were others like me.
